Get Tweed. Wear Tweed. Drive. As the Indian sun rises to welcome in a new dawn and a new year; somewhere, in the little-known town of Pondicherry, Messrs. Kilkenny and Rushton, along with their trusted Turkish-Cypriot footman ‘Horse’, will sup the last of the Earl Grey and clamber aboard a glorified lawnmower to begin an epic 3000 mile race across the subcontinent.

Equipped only with a case of gin, some inappropriate head-wear and less mechanical nowse than Gok Wan, we have but a fortnight to manhandle an Indian Tuk-Tuk across the entire length of India and Bangladesh.

We will be pitting our meagre chariot against some of the toughest topography in the world... Sweating through the tropical deep south, skirting the Bay of Bengal, crossing the flood-plains of Bangladesh, winding through the tea plantations of Assam and ultimately scaling the foothills of the Himalayas.

What the devil for I hear you cry…

We are endeavouring to raise as much sterling as possible for two charitable organisations doing some spiffing work in India, Frank Water Projects; who provide sustainable clean water to Indian communities, and Mercy Corps; who work with the under-privileged in India.

Please use the ‘Our charities’ link to find out exactly what they do and do make a donation through the Justgiving.com website.

Pledge some wedge for FRANK Water Projects...

Or send some sterling to the Mercy Corps...

And just to put any cynical minds at rest... every penny pledged goes directly to the charities. We are of course footing the bill ourselves for the rickshaw (which is donated to charity at the finish point), our flights, accommodation and all other frivolities and indiscretions.

Dear folks,

Further to 4034km of the worst roads in the world, 263 currys, 26 loose-stools and the dubious honour of sharing a bed with Horse on an unprecedented 12 consecutive occasions, we pushed our broken steed up the final hill and accross the finish line into Shillong, in that funny sticky-outy bit of North-East India.

As such, we would just like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all those who supported us...we raised over a grand and a half for two cracking charities working in India. Rest assured that some thirsty, impoverished Indians will now be quenched and marginally less impoverished thanks to your kind generosity.

Plenty of photos and a few videos uploaded now should any of you be curious to see documentation of a Turkish-Cypriot Filipino man in a three-piece tweed suit buying onion bargees off a group of Indians.

Cheers,

Edd/Jim/Horse
